5th wheels do have more living space, more storage and more head room. Pull easier, turn better and park better. They may have more bells and whistles too.

RE: portable 50 amp surge protectors
We also have the hard wired surge protector from Camping world. It also protects from brown outs. Took about 30 minutes for husband to wire it in. One of the best investments we have made.
Would be afraid a portable one would disappear.

RE: The purpose of air bags?
We had a 2500 dodge diesel before we got the 2 ton. To increase the load capacity on it we added 5,000 pound helper springs. No weight sag when we towed a Montana.
Had to upgrade that dodge to a 2 ton for this 5er we now own.

Not all 5th wheels that have "lite" in their name are not LIGHT WEIGHT! We have a
Carri-lite and it is NOT a light weight 5er. It weighs at 17,000 pounds.

You should buy what you want and what feels comfortable for you and your family. When you look, lay on the bed, stand at the kitchen counter, step inside the shower, act like you would if you were camping in it. Sit on the stool to see if you fit comfortably in there. When it feels like it is right you will know.

We upgraded to a 22 K hitch and it was about $500 more in cost for the 22 K hitch.

RE: keeping front cap clean
We use dryer sheets for really serious bug splatter. Now use McGuirs spray wax on all the trailer and give the front end cap 3 coats. Bugs wash off with a hose and water.
Bought some fuzzy cloths that come bundles in different colors. Treated with something light. They wash the 5th wheel with little water. I have seen these cloths in walmart and other stores.

Congratulations on the reward Richard. Don't know yet if we are coming to Albuquerque. This award will help the foundation very much and make it known to more people.
Cool here in AZ lately but not as cool as in the north. Was in the 40's last night and night before in the low 30's. But days are warm. Unusual for here to be that cool. Will be here until mid March and then head to Colorado for doctor and dentist appointments. Then need to go to SD to get plates for vehicles, an important trip!
Establishing state residency.

We use the fridge freezer. When traveling if the door is closed, it will stay frozen.

Yea but a Bighorn has alot more to it then a Cardinal or a Montata and Montata resale is really bad.
I disagree on that statement. We traded in our Montana, that we bought new and got darn near what we paid for it new! Afterward it stayed on their lot for less than a month before it sold.
The person that said they would look into Carriage Cameo is right on. They are very well built. Use their own frames and etc and etc.
You should go to Indiana and go through some of the factores and see how some of the 5th wheels are built. Cost money to do this but when you are investing money in a 5th wheel it is good to check everything.
Carriage has come out with new floor plans and a 28 foot slide. They are alive and well and building new units.
Carriage has a 2 year warranty.
